Electricity is supplied at a higher voltage than reported. Although single-phase and 3-phase supplies theoretically come in at 230V and 400V respectively in Singapore, in reality it is usually supplied at 240V and 415V, or higher. This voltage that site receives is also constantly fluctuating due to real time changes in supply and demand – these transients fluctuate within a range of 10% or more.
Voltage supplied is more than what we need
Our electrical equipment is designed to work within a range. There is minimal difference in efficiency when the equipment consumes electricity at 220V, 230V, or 240V. Therefore there is unnecessary wastage when we consume electricity at a level that we do not need to.
